FAQs
Andrew High School requires two years of social studies. However, several colleges and universities require three years of social studies for admission.
Placement into honors and AP are determined by your three most recent MAP scores and your 8th grade teacher recommendation.
Social studies offers several different elective offerings during your junior and senior year.
WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE SOCIAL STUDIES?
- Social studies prepares you to become an active and informed citizen
- Social Studies is vital in skill development in reading, writing and critical thinking
- Social Studies helps you become more socially aware about local, national and/or global concerns
- Social Studies is fun and interesting
FRESHMAN COURSES
- Global Issues
- Global Studies (combination of global issues and freshmen English)
- Honors Global Issues
- AP Human Geography
- AP World History
SOCIAL STUDIES GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
- One year U.S. History
- One semester Government
- One additional semester of Social Studies.
- All sophomores are required to take Government.
- All juniors are required to take US History.
- Economics, AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics can be used to fulfill the Consumer Economics graduation requirement.
COURSE LEVELS
- Academic level courses are offered all four years.
- Honors level courses are offered at the freshmen level only
- Advanced Placement Courses are offered all four years.
