Summer School Driver Ed
Summer School Driver Education Course Information:
You have registered for the 2024 Summer Driver Education Sessions at Victor J. Andrew High School. The summer sessions run from June 3rd - July 18th, 2024 (Monday through Thursdays). This is an accelerated version of the driver education course. Due to the tight timelines, students will be dropped from the course (without a refund) upon the second absence regardless of reason. Two tardies to a class will count as one absence. CDTP Testing Program Forms are not available during summer school.
D230 Summer School Driver Education is an accelerated about 6.5 week two-phase program which consists of classroom and behind-the-wheel. Chromebooks will be needed for instruction. All work, tests, and quizzes will be done during the course period. Per state requirements, students must meet 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. All phases must be passed at the end of the course for a student to be eligible for a license. There is no cooperative drivers test during the summer session. All students completing the summer session must test at the DMV to receive their license.
The upcoming mandatory Permit dates are Tuesday, April 16th & Thursday, April 18th, 2024 from 3:15-5:15 pm in Room 220.
-
All students with the last name starting with A-L should be in attendance on April 16th. (Room 220 at 3:15pm)
-
All students with the last name starting with M-Z should be in attendance on April 18th. (Room 220 at 3:15pm)
In this email you should have received the following items: student/parent contract, Rules of the Road study guide, and Early permit contract. The Rules of the Road book can be found at the top of this page as well as a practice test (beneficial for you to take this practice test a few times). The DMV does not provide us with hard copy books. You can try to contact the DMV and see if you can obtain a hard copy book, but we cannot guarantee it will be available.
Students will need to bring the signed student/parent contract, Rules of the Road homework, Permit Contract, chromebook, and contacts/eye glasses. Students will take the permit test on April 18th/20th, so please be prepared. Upon passing the permit test, the student will receive the permit application to take back home for parent signature. This application and a check made payable to “Secretary of State” for $20 must be returned no later than 3pm, on April 25th (THURSDAY) to the PE office, Room 134.
Students may choose to take Drivers Education as Pass Grade. Students choosing this option must declare by June 9th and have all paperwork submitted to their Guidance Counselor by June 24. Please see your guidance counselor for the paperwork.
