Summer School Driver Ed

Summer School Driver Education Course Information:

Congratulations, you have registered for the 2025 Summer Driver Education Sessions at Victor J. Andrew High School. The summer sessions run from Monday, June 2nd-Wednesday, July 16th, Monday through Thursday (No Class Meetings on 06/19 & 07/03). This is an accelerated version of the driver education course. Due to the tight timelines, students will be dropped from the course (without a refund) upon the second absence regardless of reason. Two tardies to a class will count as one absence. CDTP Testing Program Forms are not available during summer school.

D230 Summer School Driver Education is an accelerated about 6.5 week two-phase program which consists of classroom and behind-the-wheel. Chromebooks will be needed for instruction. All work, tests, and quizzes will be done during the course period. All summer school students have been added to a Summer School DE Google Classroom. All communications and materials will be posted to this location as well.  Per state requirements, students must meet 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. All phases must be passed at the end of the course for a student to be eligible for a license. There is no cooperative drivers test (CDTP) during the summer session. All students completing the summer session must test at the DMV to receive their license.

The upcoming mandatory Permit dates are Tuesday, April 15th & Thursday, April 17th, 2025 from 3:10-5:15 pm in Rooms 142 & 148.

  • All students with the last name starting with A-L should be in attendance on April 15th. (Rooms 142 & 148 at 3:10pm)

  • All students with the last name starting with M-Z should be in attendance on April 17th. (Rooms 142 & 148 at 3:10pm)

The Rules of the Road book can be found here. The DMV does not provide us with hard copy books. You can try to contact the DMV and see if you can obtain a hard copy book, but we cannot guarantee it will be available. Study guides and practice tests are available on our website!

Students will need to bring the signed student/parent contract, Rules of the Road homework, Chromebook, and contacts/eye glasses. Students will take the permit test on April 15th/17th, so please be prepared. Upon passing the permit test, the student will receive the permit application to take back home for parent signature. This application and a check made payable to “IL Secretary of State” for $20 must be returned no later than 3pm, ON April 24th,2025 (THURSDAY) to the PE office, Room 134.

Students may choose to take Drivers Education as Pass Grade. Students choosing this option must declare by June 9th and have all paperwork submitted to their Guidance Counselor by June 26. Please see your guidance counselor for the paperwork.

  • Students electing to take a course Pass/Grade will be expected to complete all assignments and will be graded like all other students in the class.
  • Students earning a “C” or higher using the approved classroom grading scale will be assigned a grade of “P” (pass). A grade of “P” will not be counted toward the overall GPA.
  • Students earning a grade of “C– “or lower using the approved classroom grading scale will be assigned the actual grade earned and the grade will be figured into the overall GPA.
  • CDTP waiver forms are NOT administered in summer school driver education
