Post Semester Responsibilities

Getting My License:

  1. Students are eligible to get their licenses 9 months and 1 day from the date their permits were issued to them provided that they have passed both classroom and behind the wheel portions of Driver Education.

  2. Continue driving often and working to gain experince in a variety of driving and weather conditions.

  3. Before you go to DMV, check your course completion status! (Click HERE to Check) NOTE: We recommend that you check completion status at least 1 week before going to the DMV as uploading information to the IL SOS Portal can take up to 72 hours before students are cleared through the system. If no record of your completion is found, please stop by the PE Divsion Office (Rm. 134) or Email JLDOYLE@D230.org

  4. Review all materials and checklists of items needed bring with to get license. Click here for helpful resources.

  5. SOS Facility Finder - Before going to the ILSOS facility. All Metro Chicago facilities will require the scheduling of an appointment as of September 10, 2021. Some SOS facilities in the state are closed. Please click here to make an appointment before going to the facility. You will need to make an appointment for the “In-Car Driving Test” regardless of having passed the State Road test here at the school.

NOTE: If you have opted not to complete the BTW portion of Driver Education or failed this portion of the course, you will need to wait until you are at least 18 years of age to get your license. You will need to take and pass the permit test, vision test, and state road test at the IL SOS facility. You will also need to bring a copy of your school transcript showing you completed the classroom portion of the DE course in addition to the identification documents listed above. You should contact your counselor to get a copy of your transcript.
