Parent/Student Night

Building Relationships to Better Equip Student Drivers for Success!

Before each semester begins, the instructors of the Victor J. Andrew Driver Education Department meet with parents and students to explain our program vision and expectations.

PRE-SEMESTER LEARNING TARGETS:

Note: These will be shared at parent night as well as available below for download.

The following targets are what the Andrew Driver Education Department specifically wants you to practice by the beginning of the semester. Our goal is to have each teen driver gain experience in these targets while completing at least 5 hours of practice in the parking lot and subdivision settings (ideal locations for work on these skills). Note: These skills prepare students for the upcoming semester and help foster student success in the classroom/behind the wheel. This skill practice is not designed to be in lieu of semester instruction.

Learning Targets:

1. Smooth Starts and Stops with the vehicle

2. Reversing vehicle and looking backwards while doing so

3. Hand over Hand steering

4. Hand placement while driving (9 and 3 on wheel)

5. Proper Turns

6. Basic understanding on Right of Way at intersections

Please utilize the resources that we have provided for you on this page to begin practicing driving skills at home
