The Andrew High School Green Team, led by teacher Carrie Ward, was honored with The Will County Land Use Department Resource Recovery and Energy Division's Waste Reduction and Recycling Excellence Earth Award for its efforts to be green and educate the community. Andrew High School is the first school to receive the award that is not located in Will County.
There were several initiatives that led to this honor including, the Green Team hosted a school-wide composting event with a representative from Will County Green. They also volunteered at Orland Grasslands, the 2015 Hickory Creek Watershed Bio Blitz, and the VJA Backyard Birds Workshop. Green Team members implemented a school-wide "Write & Recycle" campaign in which used markers and pens were collected for recycling and they co-hosted with VJA Art Club an "Arts & Crafts with Recyclables" Enrichment opportunity. The Green Team has been an integral part of planning and implementing the T-Bolt Green Project, in collaboration with Principal Bob Nolting, to create an indoor green space in the Main South Entrance of the school, as well.
Andrew High School, and the Green Team in particular, have made a commitment to being good stewards of the earth’s resources.
